Modern Office uses a streaming installation technology called Click-to-Run . Instead of downloading a massive 4GB ISO file all at once, the Office installer downloads a small bootstrap file (around 5MB). When you run that file, it streams the necessary components to your PC in the background. You can usually start using Word or Excel within minutes, even while the rest of the suite downloads.
