However, the ethical fault line is unavoidable. SCS Software is an indie success story—a small Czech studio that grew by supporting its modding community and offering free updates. The irony is that many players who used the SKIDROW crack for Going East went on to buy the later DLCs (Scandinavia, Vive la France, Iberia) once they had disposable income. The crack acted as a loss leader. It created a generation of virtual truckers who, years later, would voluntarily pay for the Road to the Black Sea DLC out of nostalgia and guilt.
