When Mary leaves a briefcase full of ransom money in the airport, Lloyd decides to drive across America from Rhode Island to Aspen, Colorado, to return it to her. Unbeknownst to them, they are being chased by criminals who want the money back. The movie is a series of slapstick gags and idiotic decisions that somehow work out in their favor.
