By modern standards, a 3gp file was visually atrocious. The resolution was often 176x144 pixels or, at best, 320x240. The video was pixelated, often suffering from "blocking" artifacts, and the audio was compressed to a tinny, low-fidelity mono or stereo sound. Yet, for a generation watching videos on 2-inch screens, it was magic. It was the first time consumers could carry their favorite Bollywood scenes in their pockets without needing a portable DVD player.
